The search for a new apartment can be exhausting and tedious, especially in the big city. Only a few can make their dream of owning their own home come true. Not so in the Altmark: here you can find your new home in your own four walls surrounded by unspoilt nature.
The Altmark is a cultural landscape that has grown over centuries and whose special appeal lies in its idyllically situated towns and villages and the wide, flat landscape. About half of the total population lives in the 15 small and medium-sized towns. An idyllic cottage in the forest, your own farmhouse or an apartment in an old building in the middle of the town – country life close to nature with less noise or air pollution ensure a high quality of life here. Between brick buildings and half-timbered houses you will always feel as if you're surrounded by history a bit.
The town centres are clearly arranged and the distances are short, everyone knows each other. And because the towns are not so crowded, you will find a suitable new home with us relatively quickly. The average purchase price for building plots in 2018 was €25 per m2 in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and €29 per m2 in the Stendal district (Property Market Report 2019). Even chic apartments in old buildings, which cost much more in cities like Berlin or Leipzig, are affordable here. For example, the average rent in Stendal was €5.48 per m2 and in Salzwedel €5.01 per m2 in 2018.
