Churches and Monasteries

Here in the Altmark, there are several churches in the towns and one in almost every village. In total there are over 500 churches. On about seventy of them there are late medieval wall paintings from the Romanesque and Gothic periods, which are still preserved. Another special feature are the numerous fieldstone churches.
