Famous and important Altmarkers

Very few know that the entire dynasty of the von Bismarck family belongs to the Altmark's ancient nobility. Several castles and mansions belonging to the von Bismarcks bear witness to this. Representatives of the family live in some of them again today, just as many of Prussia's famous names originate from the Altmark. Other important Altmarkers are the founder of classical archaeology Johann-Joachim Winckelmann, the famous singer Otto Reutter or Jenny Marx, Karl Marx's companion.

Other historical celebrities such as Albrecht the Bear, Emperor Charles IV, King of Sweden Gustav Adolph or Theodor Fontane have left their mark on the Altmark.
