Swimming
Paradise for swimmers and bathing beauties
Although the Altmark is not located by the sea, numerous forest pools, natural swimming lakes and classic open-air pools invite you to swim. Whether it's in the largest natural lake in Saxony-Anhalt, or in one of the few river pools in Germany – you will find unique swimming areas for all swimming enthusiasts here.
Here in the Altmark you can go swimming and experience nature because the small natural swimming lakes and forest pools are a special feature in our region. Sun worshippers can even lie on a sandy beach in summer or, if you prefer more shade, find undisturbed peace and quiet among the trees at one of the forest pools. But also for anyone who prefers diving more classically into the open-air chlorinated pool, there is a wide range of outdoor pools, pools with slides, wave pools and sauna.
One unique experience is a visit to the Biesebad in Osterburg: it is located on the river and you can swim right through the Biese river. What was once very popular in the 19th century is now very rarely found throughout Germany. So if you have always wanted to swim in a river, Osterburg offers you the unique opportunity to do so. Some Altmarkers are so enthusiastic about swimming that they can't even refrain in winter. Are you one of them too? Then meet other hardened people for an "ice bath" in the cold months and boost your circulation at sub-zero temperatures.
