The Altmark is a popular hunting ground
The Altmark, a unique hunting ground
The Altmark is a very popular hunting ground due to its rich wildlife. As a hunter you will get your money's worth: from hare to wild boar, there is a wide variety of wildlife and you can join the local hunting clubs.
The hunters in the Altmark region are organised in the Landesjagdverband Sachsen-Anhalt hunting association, with six different hunting associations in the towns: Stendal, Salzwedel, Havelberg, Osterburg, Klötze and Gardelegen. All associations fulfil the various tasks of hunting. This also includes promoting hunting traditions, such as hunting horn blowers or the training of hunting dogs. So when you hunt you experience much more than you might imagine. The state hunting association is also committed to environmental education. Children and young people learn more about their own environment and the animals living in it as part of the "Lernort Natur" project.
Would you like to learn how to hunt and acquire a hunting license? Then the best thing is to contact the local hunters. They will assist and support you and also help hunting candidates in applying for a hunting licence. There is another very special opportunity to learn how to hunt in the heart of the Altmark: the Jagdschule Ottersburg hunting school. You can get prepared for your hunting exam here intensively in courses on site. The hunting school offers a hunting camp for young hunting candidates who would like to become familiar with the game and its habitat as a whole. And there are suitable courses for experienced hunters too.
