There are charging stations to charge electric cars in the Altmark's towns
E-mobility – Potential for the future in the countryside
Into the future with e-mobility
As in many rural areas of Germany, electric mobility is still on the fringes in the Altmark region. Some enthusiasts are already travelling by electric car and are campaigning for better charging options and more education on the subject.
Anyone who has ever driven an electric car rarely wants to go back to the "normal" combustion engine car. It moves away quietly and wears out at a slower pace. The electric car is currently considered to be the most environmentally friendly way of driving. Driving an electric car is not always easy in the Altmark, and prejudices against electric mobility still prevail. While electric cars are already a matter of course in Europe's major cities, we only come across a few other e-mobility enthusiasts here. Yet this drive technology has great potential, especially in rural areas: people who live in the countryside are often on the road a lot and live in their own homes. So we can easily charge our electric car at home overnight and start with a full tank of electricity in the morning. In the best case, the electricity comes from our own solar system on the roof.
A group of interested citizens and e-mobility enthusiasts has founded the "Altmark Electromobility Round Table". Its aim is to provide information about electromobility and to highlight the possibilities in the Altmark region. There is still a partial lack of knowledge about e-mobility even in administration and business. Therefore, representatives from power producers, landlords and municipal institutions are invited to the round table. In contrast to the electric car, the electric bicycle, or e-bike for short, is very popular in the Altmark. Not just for tourists who are on one of the many cycle paths such as the Elberadweg or the Altmarkrundkurs. The support provided by the electric drive even makes it easy for less fit and older people to switch to the bike in everyday life.
