Kalbe (Milde)

City of 100 bridges

»A kind word is like a bridge« says the proverb: there is no shortage of either in Kalbe. 133 bridges alone and, of course, many more friendly residents await you in the mild town.
And it has something to offer in every season. A walk in the more than 1030 year old city center leads guests along small cozy streets around the city center with the affectionate name »Pottkuchen« past the Nikolai church and old half-timbered facades, which are a real eye-catcher, especially in summer in the »Rosenwinkel« by the planting with many climbing roses.

But also who likes it green, comes in Kalbe at his expense. In the Kummertschen Park and the Kurpark there are many romantic paths, a water treading place, small streams and ponds with water features and numerous benches for resting. An oasis that not only the former builders of the manor house of the von Alvensleben family appreciated; the patients of the Median Clinic in Kalbens and their guests also like to use the extensive grounds for recreation.
In the immediate vicinity of the spa gardens, visitors interested in history will find, among other things, the old water mill including dams and, finally, the ruins of the once proud moated castle, whose well-preserved gable and, above all, the 101-step Hausmann tower are worth at least one detour. Right next to it, the local history museum in the former guardhouse of the castle has a permanent exhibition on the castle's history and often some surprises in the form of themed exhibitions.

Rathaus in Kalbe

Just a few steps away, the largest baroque boxwood garden in the Altmark region, right next to the Goßler castle, invites you to take a stroll. Information events on the subject of boxwood are also regularly offered here. If you are traveling with children in Kalbe, you can plan a visit to the beautifully situated open-air swimming pool in the summer. Finally, the wildlife park with its many animals is an exciting destination for an excursion at any time of the year. Of course, a visit to Kalbe is ideal for all hiking and biking tourists. Here, the well signposted Milde-Biese-Weg or the Altmark circuit offer enchanting routes through the wonderfully flat Altmark with its wide fields and green forests, the Kalbeschen Werder or into the Altmärkische Schweiz. In the summer months, guests of the mild town can also look forward on certain dates to a visit to the traditional castle festival as the highlight of the flower week, the old town festival or the fun duck race, which the town's tradesmen have been organizing for years.

By the way, Kalbe is also a real insider tip for all art lovers. For the town is also known as an "artists' town" thanks to the initiative of the association of the same name. During the summer months, visitors may well encounter budding young artists on their walks, who draw attention to themselves and the charming town on the Milde River with exciting activities.
