Auf den Spuren vergangener Zeit in Arendsee

In Arendsee you should take time for a guided tour. This way you can get to know the sights of the Altmark town, which celebrated its 825th anniversary in September 2009. Worthwhile are the visit of the old Bockwindmühle and the exhibition of old agricultural technology in the culture barn. A highlight is the visit of the late Romanesque monastery church, which towers on the shore of the lake and forms the northern end of the "Romanesque Road" of Saxony-Anhalt. This sacred building, consecrated in 1208, forms a charming ensemble with the time-honored ruins of the monastery and the local history museum. Diverse exhibitions in the gallery in the cloister, the summer theater in the monastery ruins and musical performances in the monastery church enrich the cultural life. The idiosyncratic work of the "wanderprediger und tempelwechter" Gustav Nagel (1874-1952), who lived here as a nature lover and vegetarian, is commemorated especially at the place where he lived on the shores of Lake Arend.
